I have to admit I have asked myself this questions a few times in the last month with the Guelph real estate market the way it is you have to ask yourself - Is it time to move? Our guest blogger Sarah Rubenstein is here to share her expert advice.
This question is in the forefront of most people’s mind’s WAY before they make the decision to move from their current home. The big question is – How do I know it’s the right time?! Here are 3 things to ask to help you make that decision!
1. Are you unhappy with the space?
Ask yourself – Can it be fixed by de-cluttering or staging? Maybe some helpful re-organizational tips or an easy renovation is all you need to make your home work for you again.
2. Have you had a job change?
Is your current financial situation at a stress point where you may need to downsize to make life more enjoyable or grow into a bigger home? Crunch your numbers, they are the foundation and they’ll provide lots of insight.
3. Are you in need of different scenery?
Are you in a condo and wanting grass or in a house and ready to be done with the extra yard maintenance? These are things that cannot be altered where you currently are.
So, you’ve answered yes to one or more of these and are wondering what to do next? It’s time to sit down with a professional to discuss options and what will work best for your situation! You’re going to need someone on your side that you can trust. This is one of the largest transactions you’ll do in your life, be sure to choose an expert you can count on.
Make sure to choose a salesperson who can give you the time and attention you need. Some people will cap the number of active clients they will deal with at once to make sure they can give you the right amount of attention you need and deserve. Make sure the person you are looking for can provide you with what you need.
Choose someone who is familiar with YOUR market. There are huge differences in different cities across Ontario (let alone Canada as a whole!) to give you the best representation possible make sure they’re knowledgeable about the market where you are.
KNOW WHERE YOU’RE GOING!
In any market there are a bunch of different factors that come into play. If you’re planning on selling it’s important to know where you’re going next. Do you need to purchase another home or are you having one built? These all have varying individual timelines and it’s important to know upfront so that you don’t leave yourself short without a place to live!
